Hoped on a water taxi headed to the Ile de Sainte-Marguerite, the real reason for our visit to Cannes.
This little island is home to the Fort of St. Marguerite, and the prison that held "The Man in the Iron Mask for eleven years. His identity is still unknown but is speculated to be sixty different people. No one but his jailer saw him without his mask. His blood is beleived to be royal.
Todd and Ty trying to stay cool atop the ferry.

Great views with a great guy. Have to give kudoos to Todd who has planned a flawless and memorable trip. We wouldn't have seen half of what we have or learned near as much if it hadn't been for his meticulous planning and little blue notebook. Thanks honey! Love ya!
Brittan isn't minding the heat.
The Fort, the only structure originally on the island, is off in the distance.
A look back at Cannes from Sainte-Marguerite.
Currently, the Fort is used for French troubled youth as correction facility. A view from the perimeter wall back towards the main section of the Fort.
Century plants, also found in Arizona, bloom once every hundred years, hence thier name. We found two blooming right next to each other.
A top the Fort in one of the four corners, looking over the Mediterranean. Some century took this post hundreds of years before.
Can't have a fort without cannons.
Upon excavation, remains of an original Roman structure surfaced. Not a surprise.
