Some Brits say the only thing Prime Minister Tony Blair did well was making all the museums in London free. Thanks Tony. This is the British Museum which chronicales all of civilization. In this museum, Karl Marx spent a lot of time, formulating his ideas on communism and penning Das Kapital.
A close-up view of the stone and its writings.
A statue of Ramsesses II who succeeded his father in 1279 BC and ruled for 67 years. This was retrieved in the early 1800's from a mortuary temple in Thebes. The hole in the right torso is rumored to have been made by a Napoleonic expedition in the end of the eighteenth century that failed to remove it.
A better look at the mosaics made from small individual tiles. Looks like a half of what was missing in Ostia Ontica outside of Rome.
The mummy of Cleopatra VII whose life ended in suicide in 30 BC. Do Julius Ceasar and Mark Antony ring a bell? I can't wait to get home and check out a lot of history books.
These are the remains of a human over 5,000 years old from Egypt. Presumably from 3400 B.C., this mummy was naturally preserved by the sand and resides in The British Museum.
All we can think of when we see this guy is Get Smart and Steve Carrell hollaring, "Easter Island! Easter Island!" Yes, this is a basalt statue known as Hoa Hakananai'a, representing an ancestoral figure in the center of a birdman cult at Orongo.
Ancient Chinese secret says to rub the belly of the happy budha and you will have good luck. This is a huge happy budha so we should have a lot of good luck.
The warning given in The Tube. The loud speaker always chimes to mind the gap. I don't know why this seems so funny to me, but with a British accent, it is. What does mind the gap mean? It doesn't mean stay away from the gap, it means think about the gap? Or mind your mother so obey the gap? I am so confused. So much so that I don't see the metro coming. Now how does that help me mind the gap? The only gap at this point is the one I am feeling between my ears. I think it is time to call it a day.
