Dinner in our Florence apartment.
The Duomo at night. The dome's claim to fame is Filippo Brunelleschi's magnificent dome. The cathedral was built without a dome at first. The big hole in the middle was left in hopes that someday someone would be able to manage this engineering feat. Along comes Filippo who first built the grand white skeletal ribs which you can still see on the dome. Then, he used a herringbone pattern with interlocking bricks , proceeding from the base on up in an igloo like fashion. Building at the same time from all sides so the base would support itself on the way up. This took 14 years to build and was the first Renaissance dome and the model for those to follow. Our eveing walk through Florence. The main arch in the town square. Bellisimo!
Seen enough of David? I don't think so. This is David at night. Todd is sick of him though.
This the Ponte Vecchio Bridge at night.
Taking a break at the bridge.
