June 28: Day Trip to Lugano, Switzerland
Time to wake up kids. The day is waisting and we have to go.
I hope we can get them rolling before noon. If you look closely, you can see that Brittany and Kylie are in that bed.
Of course, Tanner is up earlier than all of them in his favorite spot with his favorite toy.
Waiting for the car ferry or Plinio to take us across the way to Menaggio. From their, we catch a bus to Lugano, a city in the south of Switzerland.
The kids thought this was great. The cars load on and you ride across in your car. Otherwise, you can take a seat up top and enjoy the view.
Cheese! Can you see that Tanner is enjoying his chocolate donut? The chocolate donuts here are even filled with chocolate and not just glazed. I don't know how healthy a breakfast this is, but it gets them out the door quickly.
A view of Veranna on our way out.
The lakeside view at Menaggio. The flags of all the places we are visiting this summer, England, Italy, Switzerland, and France. Of course, our homebase flag is there too, good old U.S. of A. We thought this was pretty cool.
Ooh, the agony of defeat. We saw the bus go the other way as we were sitting at another stop. One of our repeated experiences on this trip has been to run, run, run, and then wait, wait, wait. We get to the bus stop, train station, water taxi, metro stop, or plane and we have just missed our ride. Sometimes the wait is only ten minute; sometimes, it is four hours. Hence, our hijack of the statement from GetSmart, "We missed it by that much". Hand gestures done similtaneously.
We took the kids down to the riverwalk and let them play around for an hour. Tyler chose to throw our cookies in the water to feed the birds. I hope he isn't hungry later and the fish have sweet teeth.
Famished by the time we got to Lugano, we sat down in the first area we found to have lunch. looking around, we realized that we had landed ourselves in the middle of the Swiss Bank industry. Not the best place to find a McDonalds. Let's just say a glass of water cost $5.50 and that is one glass. We now know why the Swiss do so well. At least the kids can say they have been to Switzerland and will remember that it will probably the most expensive lunch they have ever had.
