That was the size of your home if you were the middle class. Not too much room for a flat screen that's for sure.
These are the stairs to the main platform in the central square. At one time there were business offices of the prestigious and ruling people of Ostia Antica here. To the north is the ampitheater that hosted plays all day and surrounding the square were all the shops of the merchants and importers/exporters.
All on the walkways around this main square were mosaics that told the illiterate merchants or workers what the shop owner sold. This one, now remember these are over 2,000 years old, sold fish.
This was the main government office, The Capitolo dedicated to the Pagean Trinity of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva.
